EXPANDIZONS episode 17 – the San Francisco episode

Originally broadcast October, 2007

One of the most popular episodes in this podcast’s history, “the San Francisco episode” is now available in the Internet Archives.

Back in 2007, I said:

It’s about time I showcase some of the great downtempo, trip-hop, and psybient artists in my own neighborhood, San Francisco.

Many thanks to the San Francisco artists and scenemakers who contributed to this episode: the amazing talented ledenhed, the brilliant Sound Capsule (DF Tram and DJ Xan-X of ambi-sonic fame), PolyGroovers (who are also featured in a new compilation from Epiphyte Records, “Test Press SF 2007”), The Warheads, the mysterious DJ Delivery, the supercharged grooves of Alloy Trex (who should have an album, but don’t!), the generous General Fuzz, the eurochilled sounds of Fuzzpod, the understated, elegantly trip-hopping Under, Karmacoda (apologies for playing the same track as in episode 8, but it’s still great, isn’t it?), and the fabulous Artemis.

Notes from 2015 about this episode: This is a perfect period piece for San Francisco in the mid-2000s. Artists were still using MySpace to promote their work and one of the main social networks at that time was tribe.net. San Francisco was part counter-culture and making its own way in the psybient trip-hop/chillout scene. This podcast captures some of the people who made that era special. Shine on.
