R.I.P. to a groundbreaking music master
I was saddened to learn that DJ Cheb i Sabbah passed away after a long battle with cancer. Well loved by the dance and world music community, he was supported by fundraising efforts as he sought treatment in the USA and abroad.
Cheb i Sabbah mixed a fusion of dance beats with Arabic, Indian, and northern African sounds and redefined world music. We owe so much to him and his innovations, and countless others followed in his path. I was lucky to dance to some of his DJing in the San Francisco.
